Meet Nancy Dill

I got my love of sewing and all things creative from my mother. She started me on a treadle sewing machine at five years old and I have never stopped. I made most of my own clothes from age 13 to my late twenties, including 2 wedding gowns and many bridesmaids’ gowns. I made my first quilt at age 15 from the rag bag and my mother’s scrap box and have done a ton of home décor sewing through the years.

At age 21 I suddenly became the owner of a craft shop. I ran the shop for about 7 years and taught many, many classes on all kinds of crafts and needlework, including hand quilting, which I learned from a local expert, Joan Aceto. I also went to Craft trade shows around the country, taking classes on all the new trends. I started a craft mail order business and kept that going for about five years, but that was before the internet! After that, I went to work at JoAnn Fabrics for a couple of years and went back to school and became a CPA. While I worked at a large firm, I taught many QuickBooks classes at the firm and other places. I started my small private CPA practice in my home so I could raise my two children while I worked. I made plenty of clothes for the kids and did my five year stint as a Girl Scout leader, teaching them crafts, quilting, and needlework.

In the fall of 2002, when my children were becoming pretty independent, I got back into machine quilting in a big way. I went to the huge AQS quilt show in Paducah, Kentucky in 2003 and was overwhelmed by all that is in the quilting world today! I decided then; that this is what I want to do with my next chapter of my life — design, teach quilting and travel! I joined my local quilt guild, Country Neighbors in Brockport, New York, as soon as I got back and held the position of President in 2006. I am also a member of the American Quilters’ Society, the Genesee Valley Quilt Club and the Canal Country Quilters in Spencerport, New York. I started teaching craft and quilting classes again, and then I started designing and publishing my own patterns for quilting & sewing in March 2005. In July 2005, I was one of the first to take a class from Dewberry Designs in Florida and became a One-Stitch Certified Quilting Instructor. My patterns were shown at Quilt Market, which I have attended every year since 2005.

In September, 2006, my Aunt Mickey and I opened Betty's Quilting Etc. in Spencerport, New York. In took over ownership in May, 2008.

On January 1, 2008, I purchased QuiltWoman.com and relocated the company to New York. We publish and distribute thousands of patterns per month all over the United States and Canada.
